Duct Leakage Testing or Duct Blasting on New Homes for Code Compliance

All residential heating systems with any portion of the duct work located outside of the building envelope will need to have a duct tightness test or duct blasting done.

This test can be done at rough in or after the air handler is installed.  On rough in with the air handler not installed, total leakage shall not be greater than 3 cfm per 100 sq. ft. of conditioned floor area.  This is the prime time to test your duct system and identify any leaks.  After the air handler is installed, total leakage shall not be greater than 4 cfm per 100 sq. ft. of conditioned floor area.
